Smarty jr 5.9 driver#
I bought my smarty used from a friend who has a diesel shop, he had it on a truck for a while when he was doing some beta testing for EFI Live tuning for dodge trucks and he said for a daily driver Smarty Jr is the best programmer unless you need enough performance to need a custom tune. I do have a pyrometer and a dual disk clutch. I've had a Smarty Jr on my '05 for 80,000 miles and it's been on the tow setting the entire time. I bought the truck new put the tuner on at about 5000 miles and it's at 110,XXX now and no issues. It gets the best mileage and runs the best on performance. I'm still running the factory airbox but it's about at its limit. Best bang for your buck is a cat 2 micron fuel filter upgrade, lift pump, exhaust, and tuner. Ive had it tuned for 60-70k mile s.If you drive with your head you won't have a issue, im at 550-600 at the wheels and run a stock clutch. I run mine on a 60 horse tune with the torque management in a pretty aggressive setting. I run a smarty touch, at a minimum get a egt gauge. Anybody run there's a long time tuned a little? My 08 6.7 would run with my 12 6.7 ho, and this 5.9 feels healthy. I put it back to stock, I don't need power, it'll pull the gooseneck just fine. On performance, it blows smoke and would blow the doors off our charger RT.
The fuel economy setting made more power and changed the shift points. I tried it on fuel economy, and also on performance. I didn't think the truck needed more power, but the price was right so I bought it. So I picked up a smarty Jr for this 07 that somebody had cheap.
